Rural Programme Community Project Cycle
WSTF work in the rural
areas through an instrument called Community Project Cycle ( CPC), a
window for rural water and sanitation projects,UNICEF- WASH, and Output
Based Aid (OBA). Rural water and sanitation services has since 2007
been funded by SIDA and Danida.The initial project was rolled out in 20
target districts prone to drought and perennial floods with poor access
to water. These target locations are divided into two;
- Arid
and Semi-arid(ASAL and semi ASAL) districts that include Madera, Wajir,
Garissa, Ijara, Tana River, Isiolo, Marsabit, West Pokot, Turkana,
Mwingi, Kwale, Kajiado, Mbeere, Kieni and Kitui.
- Flood effected areas include Kisumu, Nyando, Bondo, Busia, Siaya and Rachuonyo
Programme Objectives: Development of new water sources: to reach 1.38 million new users 95% of 1.38m new users using at least 25 l/p/d by 2013
Rehabilitation of existing water systems: To reach 310,000 people 100% of population using rehabilitated water sources use 25 l/p/d by 2013 Annex 1. Programme expected out puts and population to be served
Achievements to date
- Finalization of MOU and Other project documents
- Setting up of PIU and PSC
- Development of District Action Plans
- Formulation of proposal templates
- Appointment of contact persons Water Service Boards and GOK departments
- Training of Trainers (TOTs) for Lake Victoria South Service Board and Lake Victoria North Water Service Boards
The rural window has three main programmes within it;
UNICEF
The programme is implemented through partnership with the Government of Netherlands (GoN), Ministry of Water and Irrigation (MOWI). The programme aims at fast tracking the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in water and sanitation in Kenya.
