19 Feb 2009, Nairobi – The Water Services Trust Fund (WSTF), today, presented a cheque worth Ksh 445,200 to Itemi Water Resources Users Association (WRUA), to enhance the local community capacity in protecting River Muvukoni which is at the verge of drying up. The fund is part of the Water Resources Users Association Development Cycle (WDC), a transparent and accountable framework developed by Water Services Trust Fund (WSTF) and Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) to channel investment into water resources management at the local level. The 750 members of Itemi Water Resource Users Association (WRUA) are expected to benefit from training on how to protect catchments areas, and boost their capacity to cover the wider Nziuni sub-location and Kalama Location that drains into R. Mavukoini. The function was presided over by Mrs. Anna Tufvesson Programme Officer, Sida, Eng. James Kinyua Operations Officer, WRMA, and Eng. Rose Nyikuri WSTF Water Resource Users Development Cycle (WDC) Officer. Others included local WRUA members, Provincial Administrators, WSTF staff and WRMA regional and sub regional staff. |
