COMMISSIONING OF INDIVIDUAL METERED WATER CONNECTIONS

IN   KOSOVO SLUM, MATHARE


The project is funded by Water Services Trust Fund

Nairobi Friday 3 September 2010– Water Services Trust Fund, Kenya (WSTF) together with Nairobi City and Sewerage Water Company and Pamoja Trust invites you to the commissioning of Mathare, Kosovo water project tomorrow Friday 3rd September, at the Mathare Primary School ground( open ground opposite Mathare Mental Hospital), at 9.00 am.  The function will be presided over by Eng. David Stower, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water and Irrigation.

 
Kosovo water project is funded by Water Services Trust Fund at a cost of Ksh 3M and is expected to serve 6,000 people in Kosovo slums. The main aim of the project is to provide a basis for the people of Kosovo to get individual household connections at a subsidised cost through the help of Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company and Pamoja Trust. So far, Thirty four (34 No.) individual metered water connections have been made. Families unable to pay for household connections are able to access clean tapped water at cost of 2 per 20 ltr jerry-can from the water kiosk. Kosovo is the best planned of the Mathare settlements and the funds were used to construct 4No. water kiosks and install pipelines.

 
NCWSC is currently implementing similar projects consisting of 24 Kiosks and 25km of pipeline extensions in Mathare 4B, Gitathuru, kiamutisya mabatini, mashimoni, bondeni, village 3B, 3C and 2 at a cost of Kshs 25,969,562.00. The project is funded by European Union and German Development Bank (KfW).
